The Role of Youth: Action on Millennium Development Goals Toward a Peaceful World - an opportunity for those aged between 18 and 30 years old, from all over the world, to actively participate.

Initiatives of Change Indonesia and Centre for Religious and Civilization Studies, are jointly hosting an International Youth Forum (IYF) 2008 on the theme The Role of Youth: Action on Millennium Development Goals Toward a Peaceful World.

Initiatives of Change Indonesia (IofC-Indonesia) is a part of the global network of Initiatives of Change, which is committed to building trust across the world's divides. It comprises people of many cultures, nations, beliefs and backgrounds who are committed to transforming society through changes in individuals and relationships, starting in their own lives. To achieve its goals and ideals IofC Indonesia has been conducting workshops and conferences on youth leadership and multiculturalism.

Centre for Religious Studies is an Indonesian based organization which committed to creating a peace and civic culture among Indonesian people based on religious and humanitarian values. To achieve that CRCS-PSAP has been conducting some workshops and publishing books about peace education and civic culture.

These two groups have come together to hold the IYF in 2008 which seeks to involve 300 participants with ages ranging from 18 to 30 from all over the world to actively participate in the program. These individuals will include people of various ethnic backgrounds, gender, religious communities, civilizations and nationalities. The program will be held in Bandung from June 23rd to 30th 2008.

The program perspective will discuss and elaborate the Millennium Development Goals and formulate a strategic action plan toward a peaceful world. The long-term goals of this program are:

  • to promote a mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation among interfaith, international, and inter-civilization youth leaders in the world

  • to bring clarity of divisive issues and help forge greater understanding towards peace

  • to create a peace network among world youth leaders.

  • to provide creative space for peace thoughts, interactions, and social movement

  • to comprehend and create a strategic action plan and recommendation on achieving MDGs 2015

    We are expecting 60~80 youth delegates from around Asia and the Pacific including 20 Koreans.
    Conference theme: “World Changing through Life Changing” The gathering echoes the vision of people from all over Asia and the Pacific as they search for how their lives can be used to build harmony amongst the great diversity in the region. It aims to link every person with the common threads that bind us into a network that can bring change across nations through starting with change in our own lives.

    Fee: The fee for the conference is US$400 to cover accommodation, food, conference materials and local transportation. Fees can be paid upon arrival to the conference. Scholarships are available upon request.

    Fundraising: The actual cost of the conference per person is US$500. Participation in an Asia Pacific Youth Conference for many will not be possible without financial assistance from outside sources. We would appreciate any fundraising help from your countries.

    Confirmation: The confirmation of delegates is 31 May 2008 with the online application at
    www.apyc.iofc.org. Flights need to be booked in advance as August is busy season.

    Arrival: All people must arrive in Incheon or Kimpo airport on the 9th of August for registration at 4.30pm. Participants will be met with the sign of ‘APYC’ at the Incheon or Kimpo International airport unless there is a separate arrangement. The transportation will be arranged by the local team. If you cannot find a flight on the 9th, please contact the secretariat at apyc@iofc.org before any booking.

    Departure: The conference finishes with homestays in the night of 15th of August and it is advised to book a flight leaving on the 16th.

    3. 2 copies of resume (maximum of 3 pages only per set, no other attachments)

    4. 1 original copy of Certificate of Good Moral Character issued by either school, community, non-government organization or institution in the region to be represented.

    5. 1 original copy of the Certificate of residency issued by the Punong Barangay where the applicant is at present residing.

    6. 1 original copy of the Certification of voluntary work from an NYC officer-in-charge. Voluntary work should at least be forty (40) hours or five (5) days equivalent. (for NYC Volunteers only)

    Scholarship opportunities to study in Australia

    Australian Ambassador Designate to the Philippines Rod Smith is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2009 Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) Scholarships.

    “ALA Scholarships is a prestigious program open to current and emerging leaders in the Asia-Pacific region” said Mr Smith.


    “An ALA Scholarship is a significant opportunity for high achievers in the Philippines to extend their education, strengthen their leadership skills, build networks and develop strategies to address the development challenges we share.”

    ALA Scholarships are one of the Australian Government scholarship programs managed by the Australian Agency for International Development, AusAID. Over $A133 million is spent annually on scholarships through out the aid program.

    The Australian Leadership Awards - Scholarships provide funding for study at Masters and Doctorate levels in Australia. The ALA Scholarships aim to foster leadership, build partnerships and linkages and address issues of priority that affect people across the Asia-Pacific Region.

    Up to150 Scholarships are being offered for students from countries within the region to study at Australian universities in 2009, including candidates from the Philippines. Scholars will be selected from a highly competitive regional pool on the basis of demonstrated leadership qualities and academic achievement. Sixteen (16) scholars were selected from the Philippines in 2008.


    Awards are open for all fields of study however study programs that relate to the priority themes of shared regional interest – international trade, pandemics, security and climate change (including clean energy) – are encouraged.


    As well as providing higher education degrees, ALA Scholarships also offer scholars the opportunity to participate in a unique Leadership Development Program.

    7th National Youth parliament



    National Youth Parliament

    The NYP is a 3-day convention of youth leaders every two years wherein policy recommendations are formulated to address youth issues, and serve as government’s guide in policy formulation and program development. Started in 1996, these youth leaders gather every two years to share ideas and gain valuable insights and networks to aid them in their youth development efforts.

    Delegates will be asked to create and submit their organization's chosen position paper / case study in one of the following topics.

    ? Youth Values and Good Citizenship (includes Filipino customs and
    norms, transparency and accountability
    ? Youth Community Involvement/Engagement (includes
    volunteerism in civic works and community development)
    ? Youth Participation in Governance (includes youth level of
    participation in management and decision processes)
    ? Violence in Youth Organizations (includes fraternity/sorority and
    gangsteerism in and out of campus)
    ? Youth Lifestyles (include non-sexual risk behavior, e.g. smoking,
    drinking, gambling, sexual orientation, etc.)
    ? Peacebuilding (includes interfaith and intercultural)
    ?Specific Youth Groups (Juvenile Justice, substance abuse,

    Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP) 2008

    REPRESENT the Philippines as National Leader (35 years old & above) or as Youth Ambassador (18- 30yrs old) to the 2008 SHIP FOR SOUTHEAST ASIAN YOUTH PROGRAM (35th SSEAYP)!

    QUICK BACKGROUND:
    The Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Programme (SSEAYP) is an annual programme sponsored by the Japanese Government and supported by the member-countries of ASEAN.

    The programme brings together more than 300 youth from ASEAN countries and Japan, providing them with the unique opportunity to live together on board the Japanese ship Nippon Maru for over 40 days.

    SSEAYP started in January 1974 based on Joint Statements issued between Japan and the five ASEAN countries, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined in 1985. Vietnam participated in the programme in 1996 while Laos and Myanmar participated in 1998, and Cambodia in 2000.

    The aim of SSEAYP is to foster friendship and greater understanding among young people from Japan and ASEAN countries. It also seeks to broaden their international outlook.

    A series of activities are lined up for the selected participants. The programme during the voyages includes discussions on relevant social and youth issues, cultural introductions, sports, recreation and club activities. While activities at each Country port-of-call include interaction with the local youth, courtesy calls on dignitaries and institutional visits, as well as community service and homestay experience.

    PROGRAM DURATION:
    Intensive training preparation in Manila for the Philippine Team for almost 45 days.

    Actual SSEAYP Program for over 40 days.
